The first question on your mind is
undoubtedly, "What exactly IS the "Forgotten Asylum?"" The
short answer is that it's a very real asylum that was designed
to be forgotten. Over a century ago, the founders needed to keep a secret.
They
were smart enough to know that any attempt to hide an asylum wouldn't work.
Conspiracies and secrets attract more attention than the obvious.
Thus they decided to build and operate the asylum in plain sight
with no pretensions of being anything other than what the neighborhood
believed it to be - a place for crazy people. It appeared so
ordinary that the locals soon forgot it was even there, much the
same way you don't pay attention to the store near your home, the
one you don't even know the name of. Then,
over a century later when shifts in government and policies closed the asylum's doors for the final
time, it was forgotten altogether. Today the only people
that show any interest are the occasional curious hikers who enjoy the
thrill of sneaking through a large abandoned building. They
seem to show up the most around Halloween hoping to witness a
tormented ghost from a disjointed life.
What lies far from suspicion is that the
asylum still houses patients of living flesh and blood. I know because I work within its walls.
At this point, I'm sure a new question
as well as an astute observation have entered your mind. The
new question being, "Why reveal such a hard kept secret now?"
And the observation being, "You're as insane as the people you
supposedly house." Since sanity can never truly
be diagnosed towards one's self, I'll have to leave that for the
general public to decide. But to answer the question as to why
I'm coming forward now, well, that requires the long answer.
